As well as our two chosen charities, Dimensions is always happy to hear about opportunities for us to help those in need.
Newcastle University Masters student and Castle Donington resident, Alex, contacted us in January to seek support for a 3 week trip to Borneo which he was looking forward to taking in March, as part of his degree. The Global Engineering Project, in association with Raleigh International, involved Alex and 19 of his fellow students designing and constructing a gravity-fed water system which provided reliable and safe drinking water for 150 residents of one of the most poverty-stricken areas in Malaysia.
With an average temperature of 30ºC in Malaysia during March, we wanted to provide Alex with appropriate equipment to keep him protected from the humid rainforest climate. We were able to provide him with high quality safety boots, cotton tops, cargo shorts and trousers, protective gloves and a sunhat to enable Alex to carry out the task of building the water system.
Upon his return to the UK, Alex sent us an email to confirm that the project was an enjoyable experience and was a success for all involved. Well done, Alex!
